Hello all and welcome to a brand new year! It sounds way more exciting than it feels in some ways. We are in the brown, dreary, dead days of Winter in the South and it is… tough. Motivation has decided to hibernate along with the bears and discipline is a word that means something—I just don’t remember what.
With that being said, I DO have some exciting things I am going to be doing here on Substack this year. I have really enjoyed being a part of some of the Substack communities here and participating in monthly ‘challenges’ and prompts. So, I am going to start my own!
The first month will be for free subscribers but the subsequent months will be connected to paid subscribers only.
We are going to start with a series of storytelling prompts that are set to take us through our childhood memories, pulling out all of the good, bad and ugly as well as the sweet, hilarious and sassy. I will send out the prompt at the beginning of each month. I will make my own post based on the prompt for all subscribers to read halfway through the month. At the end of the month I will post a paid subscribers thread that will be the thread for responses to that month’s prompt.
I cannot wait to hear about your childhood/young adult years and how reflecting on them shows up for you now. Each prompt will be a bit unique. Some will contain things like: Do you remember turning 10? What was your favorite thing to play? Or it may be something like: What was the most traumatic thing that happened to you as a kid? Tell us about it and how it affects you today?
I hope to get some short essays or poems. It can be raw and unedited or it can be something that you work on all month and share as a ‘finished’ product. Because it is on a thread, I recommend the length being less than 1,000 words. I am so excited to get to know you as people and as writers/poets/humans.
The cost for a monthly subscription is quite small. If you are interested in changing your subscription to upgrade to paid you can do that by clicking on the button below.
Let me know if you have any questions! I will send a post this week with the first prompt. I am so excited to spend this year writing with you all!

great idea. I belong to a small writing group at my church. We write to prompts.
