I have not posted since before Thanksgiving, and here we are… the week before CHRISTMAS!!! What the heck?
But for real though, this is the craziest month of the year and I am working on a lot of new projects and expanding my coaching business and closing my cleaning business and parenting 3 kids and juggling the schedules of 5 people plus holiday stuff and parties and life. GAH! I need a massage.
Anyway, part of my quiet presence is also because, in the post-election world I find that I have so many words and thoughts but I needed to stay quiet to process a lot. Looking into a future that is scary and uncertain is a new level of awakening…
Let’s talk about that later, k?
For now? CHRISTMAS QUOTES! I am just going to tell you about some of my favorite Christmas movies and quotes and what they mean to me. I could make this a super long post but I am going to *try* and be brief. There is a pile of presents behind me on the couch in my office that need to be wrapped.
Starting with childhood classics:
“How the Grinch Stole Christmas” the Original movie from 1966. A childhood favorite and we literally taped it off of the TV onto a VHS so we could watch it on our own every year. We also did check the TV guide each Holiday season for when it was going to air. It was weird watching it with commercials. Ha!
Quote: ““Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before! What if Christmas, he thought, doesn't come from a store. What if Christmas...perhaps...means a little bit more!”
― Dr. Seuss, How the Grinch Stole Christmas!
"Christmas Day will always be just as long as we have we." — Narrator, The Grinch Who Stole Christmas
“White Christmas.” You really can’t go wrong with the 1940’s styles and the singing and dancing. Just so iconic and amazing. I still want to wear Rosemary Clooney’s black dress from the club in New York when she sings “Love, you didn’t do right by me” and her red Mrs Claus dress at the very end! I LOVE it! Our family grew up singing “Snow, SNow, SNOw, SNOW!!” and giggling at Danny Kaye doing the Choreography number! SO GOOD!
Quotes: Phil Davis: My dear partner, when what's left of you gets around to what's left to be gotten, what's left to be gotten won't be worth getting, whatever it is you've got left. Bob Wallace: When I figure out what that means I'll come up with a crushing reply.
Gen. Thomas F. Waverly: I got along very well in the Army without you.
Emma Allen: It took 15,000 men to take m' place. (ICONIC!)
I could go on and on but I just love it! The songs are so good, the dancing, the Christmas, the romance. It’s a favorite and I love it.
I mean, come on!!!
Love the song, love the dresses, love these women and the scene where the men lip sing is truly one of the best scenes in cinematic history!
This was real laughter and they kept it in the movie because it is too good to take out. It’s so hilarious. Something about seeing these people who are all gone now just cutting up and laughing and having a ball brings such joy to my heart. I can’t say it any other way than it’s so nostalgic. I wasn’t there but it tugs at a hearkening in my heart to go back to a place that feels safe and warm and good. (Even though this world was still deeply flawed and complex). Still so joyful.
Okay. Now it’s time to share some favorite movies just with Photos. And maybe a quote or two… In no particular order: my other Holiday Favs.
“These mashed potatoes are so creamy.”
“Santa, is watching his saturated fats!”
“I like to whisper too!”
“Isn’t there anyone who can tell me what Christmas is all about?!”
“Whenever I am feeling upset by the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow airport… When the phone calls came out from 9/11, none of them were messages of hate. They were all messages of love. I guess when you pay attention love actually is all around.”
“I actually wrote a song about you, Iris. I used only the good notes…”
The Holiday is probably my all-time favorite Christmas movie. Iris’s story is my favorite. She is lost and sad and escaping her life that she is so unhappy in. She comes to LA and stays in this beautiful house and I LOVE her neighbor, Arthur and his friends. I am a sucker for cute little old men telling stories. I am so glad her story isn’t just about romantic love. She is falling back in love with her life and herself. Kate Winslet is superb and Jack Black is SOOOO good as Miles. I also enjoy looking at Jude Law in his sweaters and long coats and scarves… and glasses. Whew! Cameron Diaz used to bug me but I have watched it so many times now I am good with her performance even though her character is slightly annoying. I also kinda love her. The scene of her laying in bed with all of the food around her and her glass of wine and her tums with the hat and scarf watching TV is #goals for all of winter for me. Ha ha
I love it so much, I ordered a sticker from one of my favorite artists on Instagram. Jennifer Vallez of @sophieandlili
Here it is, on my bulletin board. I can’t bring myself to stick stickers I really love anywhere so I hang them with tape or pushpins. Hehe.
Alright, that’s it for this week. What are your favorite Christmas/Holiday movies and quotes? Tell me I want to know!
Sending love to you out there in the ether,
Stef
